Ibiden operates electronics and ceramics businesses. It makes semiconductor package substrates and printed circuit boards, as well as automotive emissions filters and specialty carbon products.
History and development
Ibiden was founded in 1912 as Ibigawa Electric Power to support industrial development in Ogaki, Gifu. It moved from electricity into electrochemistry and later electronic and ceramic products. Its semiconductor-substrate business therefore has roots in a much older hydropower-based enterprise.
