ADA is the native asset of Cardano, a proof-of-stake blockchain. It pays transaction fees and supports stake delegation and governance. Cardano also supports smart contracts and decentralized applications. ADA/USD quotes one ADA in US dollars.

History and development

Cardano began with the Byron era in September 2017 and expanded through staged upgrades. Its approach emphasized researched and verified changes rather than launching every feature at once. ADA is the network’s native asset.

Shelley in 2020 broadened operation through stake pools and delegation; Alonzo in September 2021 introduced smart contracts. These milestones trace a progression from a transfer ledger to a platform supporting wider participation and applications. Era names provide a useful guide to that development.

Comparing charts on this board

Place ADA/USD beside ETH/USD and SOL/USD to compare smart-contract platforms. Shared advances point to broad participation; isolated ADA strength gives a reason to investigate Cardano-specific developments. Compare returns and turning points over the same period, not absolute token prices.

Add BTC/USD to follow leadership. Does ADA strengthen after Bitcoin, or move first? If BTC is flat while ADA, ETH and SOL strengthen together, examine whether participation is broadening toward application platforms.
