Bitcoin Cash emerged from a Bitcoin chain split in 2017, with a focus on increasing on-chain transaction capacity for peer-to-peer payments. It uses proof of work and operates separately from Bitcoin. BCH/USD quotes one BCH in US dollars.
History and development
Bitcoin Cash emerged when Bitcoin’s chain split on August 1, 2017. Debate over rising transaction demand led to a design emphasizing greater on-chain capacity and everyday peer-to-peer payments.
After the split, BCH maintained its own ledger and development path. CashTokens arrived in 2023, followed by an adaptive block-capacity mechanism in 2024. Shared pre-split history does not make later demand or technology identical, explaining why BTC and BCH should be compared as separate assets.

Put BCH/USD beside BTC/USD to see how assets with shared origins behave differently today. Compare percentage changes, turning times and recovery strength rather than price levels. Distinguish following a BTC rally from a BCH-only surge.
Add LTC/USD to test whether payment-oriented assets are strengthening together. If BCH and LTC both outperform BTC, investigate attention to that segment. A shared pre-split history does not make BTC and BCH a single ledger or market.
