LINK is the token used by Chainlink, an oracle network connecting smart contracts with external data and services. It supports service payments and network security. Chainlink serves multiple blockchains rather than operating as a payment-only chain. LINK/USD quotes one LINK in US dollars.
History and development
Sergey Nazarov and Steve Ellis founded Chainlink in September 2017, alongside publication of its whitepaper. It addressed the oracle problem: blockchain programs cannot directly verify external prices or events. The project proposed infrastructure to connect that information.
The network went live on mainnet in May 2019. Multiple nodes supply external information to smart contracts. LINK’s history is therefore better understood as the development of information infrastructure serving blockchains, rather than the expansion of a standalone payment chain.

Comparing charts on this board
Compare LINK/USD with ETH/USD and SOL/USD to contrast information infrastructure with application platforms. LINK does not mechanically track either asset. Separate shared rebounds from LINK-only leadership to distinguish broad buying from asset-specific developments.
Use BTC/USD as a market reference and compare turning times and recovery strength. Sustained relative strength is a prompt to examine announcements and usage related to oracles and cross-chain infrastructure, not proof of their cause by itself.
