SOL is the native token of the Solana blockchain. It pays network fees and can be staked to participate in network operations. SOL/JPY quotes one SOL in yen; both crypto demand and exchange-rate changes affect its yen value.
History and development
Solana launched Mainnet Beta in March 2020 with the goal of processing many transactions quickly. Its design combines transaction ordering with validator consensus to support payments and applications on a shared network.
Applications including decentralized finance developed around the network. SOL pays fees and supports staking, giving it a role beyond payments alone. Its early development shows how a focus on processing capacity shaped the platform’s appeal to users and developers.

Comparing charts on this board
Compare SOL/JPY with SOL/USD and USD/JPY to separate crypto movement from currency effects. Yen depreciation can lift yen-denominated value even when the dollar price is flat. Yen appreciation can reduce a dollar-price gain when expressed in yen.
Add ETH / USD to distinguish SOL-specific movement from broad crypto activity. First compare dollar-denominated returns and turning points, then examine the yen chart. Align quote timestamps so differences in update intervals are not mistaken for currency effects.
