Dogecoin is a peer-to-peer crypto asset on an open blockchain. It can be used for digital payments and transfers. DOGE/JPY quotes one DOGE in yen; both crypto demand and exchange-rate changes affect its yen value.
History and development
Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer launched Dogecoin on December 6, 2013, drawing on the Shiba Inu “Doge” internet meme. It began as a playful approach to cryptocurrency, with online tipping and donations helping a community form.
A Dogecoin Core development team formed in 2014 to maintain and improve the software. Community fundraising, including support for Jamaica’s bobsled team, became part of its history. Participant culture and collective activity have shaped DOGE alongside its technology.

Comparing charts on this board
Compare DOGE/JPY with DOGE/USD and USD/JPY to separate crypto movement from currency effects. Yen depreciation can lift yen-denominated value even when the dollar price is flat. Yen appreciation can reduce a dollar-price gain when expressed in yen.
Add BTC / USD to distinguish DOGE-specific movement from broad crypto activity. First compare dollar-denominated returns and turning points, then examine the yen chart. Align quote timestamps so differences in update intervals are not mistaken for currency effects.
