Dogecoin is a peer-to-peer crypto asset on an open blockchain. It can be used for digital payments and transfers. DOGE/USD quotes one DOGE in US dollars.

History and development

Billy Markus and Jackson Palmer launched Dogecoin on December 6, 2013, drawing on the Shiba Inu “Doge” internet meme. It began as a playful approach to cryptocurrency, with online tipping and donations helping a community form.

A Dogecoin Core development team formed in 2014 to maintain and improve the software. Community fundraising, including support for Jamaica’s bobsled team, became part of its history. Participant culture and collective activity have shaped DOGE alongside its technology.
