Alphabet is the parent company of Google. Its businesses include search, online advertising, YouTube, Android and cloud services, alongside newer projects in areas such as autonomous driving.
History and development
Larry Page and Sergey Brin founded Google in 1998, building on search research at Stanford and an early garage base in Menlo Park. Search became the foundation for advertising and broader internet services. Google, the operating business, should be distinguished from its listed parent Alphabet.
