Meta operates Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. It also develops artificial intelligence and virtual- and mixed-reality devices and software.
History and development
Meta's origins lie in Facebook, launched in 2004. Social networking developed into multiple social and messaging services. The company changed its name to Meta in 2021; that did not rename the Facebook service itself. The group identity and the names of its products are distinct.
