Palladium is used mainly in gasoline-vehicle emissions catalysts, as well as electronics and chemical processes. This chart tracks a perpetual contract referencing palladium; it need not match spot or dated futures prices.
History and development
Palladium is a platinum-group metal used in applications including automotive emissions catalysts. Standardized futures give producers and industrial users shared units and terms for trading future prices.
New York palladium futures began on January 22, 1968. A separate contract allows palladium's distinct supply and demand to form its own price. This chart's perpetual is a different derivative; the historical futures launch date is not the launch date of the displayed contract.
