SPYD is an ETF aiming to track an index of about 80 high-dividend companies drawn from the S&P 500. Its constituents are equally weighted, creating a different sector mix from a broad market-cap-weighted US stock fund.
History and development
SPYD was introduced in 2015, selecting high-dividend companies from the S&P 500 and using equal weighting. Its launch is separate from the index's 1957 debut. Both selection and weighting distinguish it from a capitalization-weighted ETF covering the entire S&P 500.

Comparing charts on this board
Compare SPYD with VYM and SCHD to examine an equal-weighted high-dividend S&P 500 selection against other dividend rules. Sector mix and weighting can make their relative performance diverge.
Add the US ten-year yield and VTI. A widening return gap around rate changes directs attention to dividend valuation and constituent sectors. Account for ex-dividend adjustments when comparing price moves.
