VYM is an ETF aiming to track the FTSE High Dividend Yield Index. It holds roughly 600 US companies expected to pay above-average dividends, excluding REITs, with weights based on market value.
History and development
VYM began on November 10, 2006, adding a dividend-yield-focused selection of US stocks alongside broad-market funds such as VTI. Dividend ETFs do not all use the same selection rules: differences from products such as SCHD arise from their respective benchmark designs.
