VEA is an ETF focused on developed stock markets outside the US. It holds roughly 3,900 companies across regions including Japan, Europe and Canada, aiming to track the FTSE Developed All Cap ex US Index.
History and development
VEA began on July 20, 2007, bringing non-US developed-market equities into a single ETF rather than requiring separate country selections. Its geographic role differs from US equity funds, allowing developed markets outside the US to be considered as a separate portfolio component.

Comparing charts on this board
Place VEA beside VTI and VWO to compare US, ex-US developed and emerging equities. VEA leadership over VTI shows relative developed-market strength outside the US; simultaneous VWO strength broadens that regional pattern.
Dollar-traded ETFs include local equity and currency effects. Add EUR/USD or USD/JPY for context, and treat trading after local exchanges close as a separate price-discovery period.
