VWO is an ETF focused on emerging-market equities. It holds roughly 6,300 large, mid-sized and small companies across several regions and aims to track a FTSE emerging-markets index.
History and development
VWO began on March 4, 2005. Its emerging-market benchmark changed from MSCI to FTSE in 2013, and a later transition introduced mainland Chinese A shares. The same emerging-market label can therefore span changes in country classification and the shares included in the portfolio.

Comparing charts on this board
Compare VWO with VEA and VTI to track emerging-market leadership against developed markets and the US. Broad gains and VWO-only weakness show different geographic participation. Dollar strength also directs attention to currencies and dollar funding.
Shanghai, TAIEX and Nifty 50 add country-level lenses. Align closing dates while keeping local-currency index returns distinct from the dollar-traded ETF.
