Jibun Stocks

VXUS holds about 8,800 stocks across developed and emerging markets outside the United States. It tracks the FTSE Global All Cap ex US Index, covering large, mid and small companies with weights based on free-float market capitalization.

History and development

VXUS began on January 26, 2011, combining developed and emerging equity markets outside the US in one ETF. That scope differs from developed-market VEA and emerging-market VWO. Its design supports a broad distinction between US equities and the rest of the world's stock markets.

Comparing charts on this board

VXUS holds non-US equities but trades in the US in dollars. Beside VTI, it offers a dollar-quoted market-price comparison between US and non-US businesses. Local exchanges and the ETF do not share one trading schedule, so its intraday line is not a simultaneous record of every underlying local stock market.

VEA and VWO provide additional developed- and emerging-market comparisons. VXUS's dollar value reflects underlying equities and the relationship between their currencies and the dollar. For a yen-based valuation, USD/JPY adds another currency layer. Separate the underlying market, the ETF's quote currency and your valuation currency.
